18 Hole Bridge

For several years now I have offered an 18-hole bridge. This is a new bridge design that was devised by Jose Romanillos. This design takes the 12 hole bridge design used by some makers a step further, offering a more elegant solution to the issues of the standard bridge. In this design the strings pass through the tie block, rather than over it. The break angle of the string over the saddle is never hindered by the tying of the string. In a 6 hole bridge, the string loop pulls back on the string as it exists the tie block, diminishing the break angle.

V-Jointed Head:
Though a difficult joint to execute, the V Joint used to join the head of the guitar to the neck shaft is not only beautiful but strong. I consider this joint superior because the string tension actually pulls the joint together, rather than apart as in in the more common "scarf" joint. Speaking from experience, when a neck receives a blow sharp enough to break it, with this joint the joint itself will separate, causing little damage. Cleanup and repair is much easier and virtually undetectable. This type of joint popularized by Jose Romanillos. I sometimes add a back head veneer for a dramatic effect, usually bookmatched from cutoffs of the back for a perfect color match.

Tornavoz:

The Tornavoz is a conical tube that extends beneath the soundhole toward the back, on the inside of the instrument.

The guitars I make to utilize a Tornavoz are in the style of Antonio de Torres, with construction similar to the famous 1859 Torres owned by Miguel Llobet. I believe it to add a wonderful dimension to the sound of the guitar and am offering it on both my "standard" guitars, and on slightly smaller models replicating famous Torres guitars as played by Tarrega and Llobet.
